It is a city of narrow streets with courtyards and medieval arches, full of romance and tradition by student culture. Also known as the "City of Knowledge" or "Student City" Coimbra is too a reference in health and science, as well as the one where you can hear the "Coimbra Fado" sung by tunas or student choral groups.

Coimbra University City

  • The university city of Coimbra promises an unique experience! An UNESCO World Heritage place, our visitors can be delighted at the Chapel of St. Michael, and the magnificent Baroque Library. On the Class rooms of the university we can realize how traditional and cultural is seen the academic spirit, providing an overview of higher education and its means.

 

City Streets

  • As you stroll through the picturesque streets of Coimbra, it is possible to observe the "Republics", places that welcome college students and where is transmitted all the tradition and academic knowledge associated with them. The cathedrals of Coimbra are also a tourist attraction space. It is in on the Old Cathedral which is held annually the academic serenade, ceremony prior to the burning of the ribbons, which is one of the most iconic and ancient monuments of Coimbra. The New Cathedral was a former Jesuit temple, in Mannerist style transformed into Cathedral in the century XVIII. It is also in the city of Coimbra at the church of Santa Cruz, were the remains of the first kings of Portugal are buried. The quality of the artistic interventions in the church, particularly in the Manuelino period, makes this one of the main historical and artistic monuments of the region.

 

Panoramic visit

Tomar

  • The town of Tomar was born inside the walls of the Convento de Cristo, constructed under the orders of Gualdim de Pais, the fourth grand master of the Knights Templar in the late 12th century.

    Tomar is one of Portugal's historical jewels and more significantly was the last Templar town to be commissioned for construction. Tomar was especially important in the 15th century when it was a centre of Portuguese overseas expansion under Henry the Navigator, the Grand Master of the Order of Christ, successor organization to the Templars in Portugal.

    In 2013, the Guardian elected The Convento de Cristo in Tomar as the most spectacular place to visit in Portugal, "...Founded by the Knights Templar, it's a beautiful, mysterious and magical place, wonderful to discover and enjoy."
