Guimarães and Braga Tour
The birthplace of Portugal built within Guimarães city, a place witch takes us to visit the castle that witnessed the birth of the first King of Portugal; the chapel, where he was baptized as well as the Palace of Bragança’s Dukes. Guimarães, a UNESCO World Heritage since 2001, is an excellent example of transformation from a medieval village into a modern city, holding its own nature with part of the city protecting walls. The actual city of Guimarães knew how to reconcile, at the best way, the story and the subsequent maintenance of assets with the dynamism and entrepreneurship that characterize modern cities which has manifested in the nomination for European Capital of Culture in 2012.
On the way to Braga you will have the chance to enjoy the scenery and admire the vines planted on fences where they grow the grapes used for the production of vinho verde. On the hillside stands the imposing staircase of Bom Jesus’s Sanctuary, whose way of the cross leads us between chapels and fountains to the church surrounded by beautiful gardens where nature and spirituality are involved.
